90s TV Show Valentines for You and Yours

Valentine's Day Anecdote: When I was in 6th grade, one of my teachers had us make construction paper-crayon-safety scissor valentines. Everyone was supposed to make a valentine for one other person in the class. My friends paired up, but I guess there was an odd number of kids, because I didn't have a partner. No one seemed to notice or care. I spent the entire class period begrudgingly making a valentine, while hoping that all of my "friends" would drop dead and subsequently burn in the eternal fires of hell. I was also trying to stifle my tears, and was doing a good job of it, until everyone exchanged valentines. Naturally, I broke down. Everyone was standing in the hallway by this time, and a bunch of girls from my class came up to me, wanting to know what was wrong. I told them that no one made a valentine for me. After hearing this, some of them ran back into the classroom and jerry-rigged a crude valentine out of scraps of paper. In retrospect, I suppose this was sort of sweet. But, at the time, I thought it was total bullshit, and I threw that thing away. My teacher must have seen me crying because I ended up having to go to this group for emo, "at-risk" girls, led by the school counselor every week.

I've made these 90s TV show valentines for you to share with the people you care about, in the hopes that no one you love will have to go through what I went through all those years ago.

The Week That Was: Instant Nostalgia

I can't remember a time when someone's asked me what I've been up to, that I haven't said, "nothing." But surely, I must be up to something. I've decided to really begin taking stock of my life and because I'm nostalgia crazy, I'm going to start getting nostalgic about stuff that just happened.

Monday
Saw Black Swan with my mom. Note: Do not see Black Swan with your mom. I've, admittedly, but never purposely, seen several of these sorts of R-rated sexy-time movies with my mother without incident, but when the sexy time stuff is kind of a reflection of/reaction to the mother-daughter relationship, the viewing experience just gets, as the French say, weird. But if you haven't seen this one already, you probably should. If only to check out Vincent Cassel, who is, as the French say, French. Total French dude.
Tuesday
Blew off a writing assignment and saw the new Sofia Coppola movie Somewhere. Can't help thinking that Sofia Coppola's entire career is based on a bet...and of course nepotism, to a lesser extent. But I am a fan of hers, in spite of myself, and enjoyed this movie even though there was no plot, conflict, etc.
Wednesday
The neighbor boy came over and we watched The Empire Strikes Back (RIP Irvin Kershner) while talking about how aimless we are, the stupidity of Facebook, and Yoda's tendency to flip everyone the bird.
Thursday
My boyfriend and I decided that we needed to go on diets and were planning on eating something healthy for dinner but instead ate monster burritos. We are fat enablers.
Friday
BF got me hammered, hoping, I think, that it would lead to some sort of make-out sesh or coitus situation but really all it lead to was chili cheese fries at 2AM.
Saturday
Went to the Pixar exhibit at the Oakland Museum, which was extremely rad even though the whole experience was ultimately just rubbing salt into the you-will-never-work-for-Pixar wound. (Decided that later, I'd nurse said wound with a Lean Cuisine binge.) Saw this ominous/seedy "Pay Her" sign when we parked the car outside the museum:
Sunday
Watched the Syfy channel's Star Trek movie marathon. Desperate to see my idol/husband Jean-Luc Picard/Patrick Stewart, I waited with bated breath for the Next Generation movies.

And that was the week that was.

I found my Star Trek Enterprise-D toy also, I'm on Twitter

Well hello there, cool people.

I just wanted you guys to know that I found ye olde Star Trek Enterprise-D in a cabinet in the garage along with a crap load of ninja turtles, transformers, and my Sega Genesis. The awesome thing about the Enterprise toy, though, is that I got it in 1994 but all the rad laser sounds still work. To celebrate, I made you guys this video. You're welcome.

Also, I finally caved in and I'm on "the twitter" now. All of my nerd conventions (Wondercon, Comic-con, APE, DragonCon, etc.) are coming up and I thought it'd be kind of dope to post some real-time pictures of all of the awesomely costumed geeks in their natural habitat. You know, for anthropological reasons. And then I think it'd be cool to communicate with you guys, er something. Anyway, I'm @ambthrax and you'll find the little twitter button thingy on the sidebar.

Keep it real, yo.

I'm not a Trekkie, I'm a Star Trek Enthusiast

Dear Internet,

I saw the J.J. Abrams Star Trek revamp twice in the theater. And guess what? It was awesome both times.
